Collection: The Invisible String

The works created in this collection are inspired by experiences and memories from my life. Paintings explore my perception, moods and feeling within nature. Namely, the flora and fauna. In some pieces, you may find hidden creatures. They may be staring out at you or hiding. The important thing to consider is we are never removed from the natural world, even when we can't see it.

The Invisible String is symbolic for the interconnectedness of experiences and how they can shape or change a body or work. Creativity does not happen in a vacuum, and for myself, staying within one color pallet and one theme is not natural to the complexities of life. Within these works are subtle shifts in pallet, mood and subject matter. The string of my identity holds them together.

The concept for the work also speaks to the attachment an artist has with their creations. Often, there is an intimate cycle an artist has during the stages of idea generation, implementation and completion encompassing the creative cycle. In this way, there is an invisible string that connects me to all my pieces.

Moreover, The Invisible String is the identity of the artist as seen in their works. Each person is unique and when authentically creating, there will be a string of identity found in the work that is individually distinctive.

As an artist who focuses a lot on the earth and foreground in landscape painting, the massive amounts of flora informed the colours, shapes and patterns of my work. This collection features landscapes exploding with both invasive and native plants, animals hidden or in plain sight. Some paintings confront the viewer while others are more elusive, like the mule deer hiding in the tall grass that want's little to do with humans.
