Raven and the Light is a popular Indigenous story here in BC, filled with knowledge of how our world came to have the sun. My interpretation is from the perspective of a seventh generation Canadian. I have heard many versions of this story from elders and knowledge keepers in the many communities I serve. My favorite story recalls when Raven was a beautiful white bird, with an angelic voice. She (Raven is female on the South Coast) gave up her beauty and singing to steal the sun, torching her body to bring back the light from a chief who stole it (short version - keep in mind I can't officially re-tell the story). My interpretation of this story is one of selflessness and transformation. Raven gave up her beauty for the benefit for all her kin, including mankind. She is a symbol of how one individual can change the course of history.

Each painting comes with hardware attached, all pieces are signed on the back, ready to hang and enjoy!
